BSL101 (Healthcare) unit

Raise your standards of Deaf Awareness in the workplace

D/deaf people are at a disadvantage when it comes to healthcare. Communication is often difficult and many GP’s and staff can’t communicate with their patients effectively, often leading to poor communication and mistakes in understanding.

At Study Sharpe, we offer a range of tailored Deaf Awareness training courses and support services for businesses and professionals in the Healthcare sector which are designed to help staff and GP’s understand how to communicate effectively with D/deaf people. Our core focus is on helping businesses create an inclusive community internally and externally.

You’ll have access to our expertise and we will work closely with you in order to help your business operations become as diverse as possible.

Who will benefit from our BSL101 (Healthcare) course?

Unit BSL101 (Healthcare) is designed to provide a nationally accredited unit of BSL skills for people who work in healthcare services that may come into contact with D/deaf people or colleagues. These may be as patients, service users, friends, or relatives of patients.

This course provides a basic knowledge of BSL skills only. Therefore, at its completion, learners will NOT be able to interpret complex situations – a registered Sign Language Interpreter should be booked to enable effective communication. (reference WWW.NRCPD.ORG.UK to book a Registered Sign Language Interpreter).

This course can be delivered in 3 different delivery options:

  • Condensed over 4/5 days
  • 20 hours over 7 weeks
  • 20 hours over 10 weeks
